Favorite Photo Friday - a little talk therapy

{Penny for her thoughts}

Penny for Her Thoughts Diptych

I have learned after 27 years experience of being a mom
that sometimes important conversations pop up out of nowhere.
And many times when you least expect one.
When my oldest son was a teen, it was usually as I was driving and he was in the back seat.

I can't say that I can remember word for word what those car conversations were
but they were meaningful to both of us and important to him.
Nick is now an adult, on his own and he and I are still very close.

A few days ago I took Grace out for some photos and noticed
she seemed preoccupied with something,
and when she smiled she was tensing up the muscles around her mouth.
Something wasn't quite right.
I put down my camera and we just talked...about school, friends, Summer, etc.
Eventually I found out about a little 3rd grade drama going on with a friend at school.
Thankfully Grace wasn't being bullied.
We talked about some solutions and what she could do.
Hopefully we'll continue these conversations.

I can't even find the words today. You captured a beauty I've never seen in Grace before. I mean, her pictures are always beautiful, don't get me wrong, but these are just so.... wow! And I love the dress too.. Allison wore it to my parents' anniversary party last year! :) Glad you were able to get out of her what she needed to talk about.

I religiously read every single one of your posts. I have to say, I think your photography is some of the very best out there, but this particular set is BY FAR my favorite!! It's amazing!! And I'm so glad Grace feels comfortable enough to confide in you. I hope my children feel the same way toward me when they are older. xoxo, Brooke

Those little talks are so valuable, aren't they! The drama starts early -- so glad you were able to help her think of solutions.

She has such beauty it's just breathtaking. I know I tell you this about her but I can't help repeating myself. Oh yes, please share about the gorgeous dress that looks as if it were made just for her and her only!

She is beautiful even in a low mood. It's great to be parent.

A mother always knows when something isn't quite right. Hubs & I always ask the kids & they say nothing. Then we pry further because, as we tell them, we know them better than they know themselves. It's great when they finally open up & great talks happen. I feel so fortunate that my kids would talk to me all day if I let them.

LOVE these pics of Grace- especially that last one, so beautiful. Her hair is getting SO LONG!! Where did you get that dress?

Beautifully expressed in photos and words. So pleased to read that you put the camera aside to focus on the real issues of life.

She is a stunning....even when she is sad! These are really beautiful Gail. I love how her pretty dress pops off the neutral background.

So glad you were able to talk things through with her. A Mother always knows when something is not right. She is at a tough age..... all that girl stuff starts. I am dreading the day. One of my girlfriends is going through it now with her daughter and when she tells me some of what goes on in school it makes me want to cry.

Hopefully Grace will continue to talk to you about her feelings.

xoxo,

Lisa

Stunning Gail. I'm taking Lisa's class in July. Hoping to get a little better. Keep open lines with Grace. I know you will. I'll be praying too. Being a girl is just tough!
