new year and a fresh perspective

Taken outside 5 days ago, I've taken very few pics after Christmas.

I've always liked how we get to start all over again Jan. 1 of the year and think about how we might do somethings a little different or improve a bit. I'm not a big resolution person, but I do have a mental list on what I'll be working on this year...
  • Spend more one on one time with my kids ~ I'm writing this coming off of 4 solid days with my kids indoors(it's way too cold to go outside here to play). What I have done besides taking down our Christmas decorations, is spend more one on one time with them...which I plan to continue. Will and I have played games, colored, practiced writing his name and played with his new race car set together. I hear him saying many new words I had no idea he knew and took time to just sit down with him on my lap, 'in the moment.' I helped Grace paint her nails tonight and today we did some crafts together and she read to me.
  • Eat healthier and get on my treadmill. I mean come on, we all know what we're supposed to do...but being moms we tend to take care of everyone else first, and us last. I'm putting myself first in this area. I plan to live a long life and be here for my kids.
  • Spend more time with my parents. My dad will be 80 in April...he's extremely healthy and active for his age, but I see my parents both slowing down. I also will be taking many more pictures of my parents.
  • Continue to learn about photography but also slow down a bit with it. The last year has consumed me with learning everything I could about my camera and photography in general. I'm taking it a little slower, and realizing this is a lifelong love and a journey... learning some on my own and through local classes.
  • And live in the moment, laugh, love and pray more...

Hmmm....yes.....those sound like some real good plans. I too don't really do resolutions but I do make some plans. We share a few of them. One on one with the kids more and hit the threadmill.

I like how you put it...."come on, we know.....". And we do, so thanks for the little push.

I wish you well on your goals for this new year!

Wonderful plans and wonderful perspective. I have been spending once a week with my grandma and have absolutely loved it. The time with her has put so much into perspective for me. Happy 2010 you Gail.

Love your goals -- I have some of the very same plans, esp. the playing games and one-on-one time -- so fun and so important! Have a great new week!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. We are so excited about this new journey we are on! Your children are darling. I poured over your blog and am in awe of your photography and your gift of capturing your children. I love photography and am just learning more about my camera and photography in general. I just started a 365 photo project in hopes of working on that this year. If only I had extra hours in the day to really do that. Do you have an resources or good advice that you would care to share with someone striving to be a better photographer?

Very well said my friend:) Live for the here and now and take things one day at a time!! I tend to move at a million miles an hour and one day I will regret that I didn't slow down a bit and take time to smell the roses!!

GORGEOUS winter photo.....LOVE IT!!

Happy New Year! Hope 2010 brings you much happiness:)

Wait... getting on the treadmill is taking care of ME? I thought that just made me miserable... hmm... *grin*

And I love what you said about the lifelong journey of a hobby. That was a good reminder for me.

Couldn't have said it better, Gail. I've got plenty of things swirling around in my head that I'd love to accomplish this year and I need to focus on them and move forward.
Yep, we all know what we need to do!

I share your love of photography and I, too, felt rather consumed last year. I really like the way you that affair a lifelong journey and I will think of it that way from now on and give myself permission to move slowly and enjoy where I'm at along the journey!

Happy New Year, Gail!

Looks like a great list. I too have many of the same plans... from working out a bit more, eating locally and working on my photography. I need to take some courses and buy some more equipment. Can't wait for the new year....

That sounds perfect....I am with ya on all of them except the treadmill. I cannot do the treadmill...I fall asleep from boredom.

Happy and Blessed New Year!!!
