snapshots of our 4th

A little bit of our 4th...

blog posts29

The 4th of July is one of my very favorite holidays...how could it not be a fav with getting together as a family, eating great food (barbequeing, yummy corn on the cob, baked beans, watermelon and strawberry pie), and celebrating our country's birthday?

Dan and I have lived in very large urban areas and now live in a teeny tiny town outside of Madison, WI. Though it took us a little while to adjust to the change, we have grown to dearly love it here. One of our July 4th traditions is to attend this parade in a town nearby. It's small town America at it's best.

We loved seeing these 2 pups riding in the parade. There were horses, bands, high school football teams, a local politician campaigning, and Ronald Mc Donald carried a gigantic flag. The University of Wisconsin mascot...Bucky Badger made an appearance and Grace and Will loved getting candy from the parade walkers.

Last night the kids did sparklers...rather Grace did sparklers. This year Will was afraid of them because he knew they were 'hot.' And I have to say that was perfectly fine with me. Last year he had no fear.

Later we watched a neighborhood fireworks show.... it was a perfect July 4th and we did step back and appreciate all the freedoms that we're fortunate to enjoy. :)

It looks like you had a wonderful day filled with fun and laughter. Just the way it should be. We had a dreary, wet day. I'm going to write a post about it. It's just about the opposite of what you did, but we had a blast even though the weather didn't cooperate.

Love your photos. They are so beautiful. Makes me want to move to a small town.

Hugs...
Grace

Since I love so close to Grace you already know that the weather did not cooperate here but we still managed to have a little fun too.

I am with Grace...small town USA looks pretty darn inviting...at least the way it was captured through your lens. How wonderful!

Hugs!

You know, Gail, I had chills watching the story unfold in photos of your celebration yesterday...Americana at its best. I live in a small town but we're so close to a big city that its not really "small town" (as in John Cougar Mellencamp) I think the experience of raising children in a town like that (and enjoying it as an adult too!) is one that cannot be replaced.
I love this country so much and when I see our Flag blowing in the wind I sometimes get a lump in my throat. When I looked at your photos of the day I felt the same. What a glorious way to spend the 4th!

PS
I haven't seen sparklers since my childhood! I don't know if we just can't get them here but boy, that amazing photo really brought back so many memories!

What a fun 4th small. There is something about being in a small town on the fourth that makes it special. Love all the photos and your kids look great dressed in their red, white, and blue.

LOVE that sparkler! looks like you guys had a great time. we were pretty much drenched in rain all day :O(
but no fireworks for us, she was crying just hearing them from inside the safety of our home and did NOT want to see what they were all about. maybe next year :O)

Looks like a great celebration Gail. I love all your shots and the extra blue in the editing is such a perfect touch.

I grew up in a small town (albeit north of the border) and your pictures felt so familiar.

Have a great week with your kiddos.

I love how you captured the essence of the festivities in your photos! It's all about community and you can feel the sense of love and camaraderie throughout! BTW - I am simply smitten (and slightly jealous!) of your pic of your daughter holding the sparkler! I searched everywhere for one to photograph during the holiday, but had no luck finding one. It's so pretty though! Definitely next year ;o)
