{A small hometown Midwest July 4th}
Low key is a good word to describe our July 4th,
no traveling near or far, just hangin' out at home in the a.c....
except for when we were out in the 104 degree temps to watch a parade.
These two were armed and ready with bags for C A N D Y.
Yes, candy was their mission for the day.
My mission was to keep all of us hydrated and capture a few photos.
I have to say I was impressed that there wasn't a whole lot of complaining about the heat.

After lunch we made our way to the pool for an afternoon of swimming
and playing in the water. (Those photos for my next post).

Evening time was the sparkler show.
Quite a few local fireworks displays were cancelled due to the extreme heat and drought
but we managed to do our own thing and have fun.
Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th!
Camera settings for the sparkler photos -
50mm 1.4 lens
F/1.8
1/100 sec.
ISO 1250
It's a slower shutter speed than I would have liked and you can see a little movement
but I still loved them.

10 kind words:
I'm glad to hear we weren't the only people to brave this crazy heat for a parade. Logan and Madison stuffed my purse full of candy. Luckily they are still young enough that they forgot all about it, so no sugar highs! I love the sparkler pictures. Sometimes low key holidays are the best.
What a beautiful holiday your sweet family enjoyed! Always seeing your photog!!! We had hot temps too but the pool kept it tolerable. Sparklers are our fav too! XOXO
I LOVE your sparkler photos!! Would you mind sharing your settings and lens for these? I can't get sparkler photos without something being blurry! :/
Perfection...and while I certainly enjoyed my 4th on the road...complete with a McDonals's lunch...because nothing says American like McDonalds...(Ha!)...YOURS truly sounds perfect. I Adore the photo of Grace and Will walking toward the fire truck with Grace's hair blowing...and the small photo of Grace in the middle row of your collage...both the kind of photos that take my breath away...
Stay cool...
What a beautiful documentation of your July 4th!!!!
Sounds like you had a wonderful 4th!!! You captured your day beautifully!!! I have no photos from the 4th for fear my camera would of melted lol I spent the day in the pool playing mermaids and killer shark (I was the shark).
Low key is okay by me! ;-)
Wow...it really must be horribly hot by you. The grass in your photos are as brown as can be. Hope you get a break from the oppressive heat soon.
xoxo
"low key" looks fun to me!

Looks like you had a perfect low key 4th!!!
Beautiful photos of your super hot holiday!!
The heat has been insane... not the norm for these parts!!! I think we had a few adults eyeing up the baby pool during our 4th of July celebration:))
xo,
Lisa
These are the most perfect, iconic 4th of July photos. So well done & beautifully captured Gail. You know I love the firetrucks.
